This is a story of a video tape. According to scary stories told from friends to friends, who ever views this tape will receive a call. This call will tell you that you will die in 7 days. Rachel Keller is a young journalist. Her niece was recently found dead with a look of pure shock embedded in her face as if something scared her to death. She then learns that her niece's three friends died at the same time, too, and also about a disturbing videotape that is said to kill you seven days after watching it. Trying to figure out what happened to her niece Rachel comes into the possession of that same tape and watches it. Once she receives the call herself, she realizes she has 7 days to solve this puzzle and save her own life. Together with her ex-husband Noah, she researches the origin of the tape, and the person she sees there, named Samara Morgan. Things get even more desperate when her Son, Aidan, watches the tape too. Now it's not just her life she needs to save.
