Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) is just a regular guy living in Washington D. C. who happens to look exactly like President Bill Mitchell. So much so that he's hired by the president's chief of staff Bob Alexander (Frank Langella), when Mitchell is cheating on the First Lady (Sigourney Weaver). During one affair, Mitchell suffers a stroke and goes into a coma. Alexander keeps the stroke a secret and convinces Kovic to impersonate the president full time. Only Alexander and Alan Reed (Kevin Dunn), the communications director, and a Secret Service agent (Ving Rhames) know the secret. Alexander wants to use Kovic for his own political ends, but Kovic soon wants to help the First Lady on a project, tipping her off to the secret. |
