 Butter Frosting: 
Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter (or oleo)
3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
pinch salt
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Method:

Using mixer, cream butter. Cream in sugar gradually. Add salt and egg. Beat until fluffy. Add vanilla.

Makes enough for tops and sides of 2 9-inch layers, 3 8-inch layers, 2 doz. cup cakes or 1 sheet cake.


Variation:

Chocolate Butter Frosting: Add 1/3 cup cocoa, sifted with sugar.
