Ingredients:
1 cup golden brown sugar, firm packed
1 1/3 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg, well beaten
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup milk with 1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp ginger
5 tbsp cinnamon
raisins
nuts (optional)

Method:
Combine flour, salt, sugar, shortening until crumbly. Reserve 1/4 cup of crumbs.
To remaining crumbs add baking powder and soda and spices; mix well.
Add milk and egg; mix well.
Pour into waxed-paper lined 8x8x2 pan. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs, chopped nuts
and more cinnamon may be sprinkled on top.
Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.
